Department mission
The mission of Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) is to support individuals, families and communities on their journey to wellness. Our vision for the people of the North Slope is to achieve joy, health and well-being, while growing stronger together in a safe community, with increasing hope for better lives.
General information
IBH provides Mental Health and Psychiatric services for adults and children across the North Slope of Alaska through credentialed professionals. Services include assessment and referral to Individual Therapy, Family Therapy, Marriage Counseling and Case-Management for Mental Health supports as well as assessment and referral for Individual Counseling, Group Counseling and Case-Management for Substance Misuse. Topics addressed include relationship issues, domestic violence, sexual abuse, early intervention/education just to mention a few.
Staff are available to provide assessments and case-management to assist with connections to Residential Treatment Centers around the state of Alaska and the Lower 48. Individual and group sessions utilizing the Matrix Model for Substance Misuse Treatment are offered at our Utqiagvik facility or by video tele-conferencing with Village Clinics across the North Slope. Residents can also access services via our Walk-In Clinic which is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00pm to 5:00pm on the weeks opposite Psychiatric Clinic.
IBH staffs a Village Clinician who regularly travels to the villages to offer in-person services and to provide outreach. An On-Call Clinician is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for Emergency Behavioral Health Services for all communities on the North Slope. IBH staffs Substance Use Counselors, Master’s Level Clinicians, Case Managers and Psychiatrists who are mindful of the importance of timely access to services while striving to provide quality Behavioral Health Services.

Gathering Place (GP)
Gathering Place (GP) is a day treatment program which provides daily living skills education and supports recommended on consumer’s treatment plans by IBH Clinicians following assessment. GP also provides individuals with similar needs a place of community involvement. GP was CARF accredited in June of 2014 and re-accredited in April of 2017 through the year 2020. GP’s goals of promoting community integration by optimizing and supporting the clients’ capacity for independent living remains at the forefront of staff focus. The facility is open from 8:30am to 5:00pm with service hours from 9:00am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
Through GP, IBH offers supports with everyday issues, teaching life skills within a safe and social environment through the encouragement provided by a Case Manager and two Client Advocates.

Sober Living Environment (SLE)
North Slope Borough/IBH Sober Living Environment is a 6 bed supportive sober home committed to assisting men struggling with addiction in developing the skills necessary to lead sober, productive lives.
Our program of personal responsibility and spiritual growth blends therapeutic modality with structured living and care to address each individual’s unique needs and is reinforced through the assistance of a Case Manager and two Client Advocates.
Our goal is to safely and effectively bridge our residents back into the community and families, with all of the tools necessary to maintain long-term, meaningful sobriety through supportive care, advocacy, and recovery focused skills development in the following areas:
- Daily Living and Self-Care
- Community Living
- Living Independently
- Dealing with the Effects of Chemical Dependency
SLE staff believe anyone can achieve lasting recovery if given the proper understanding, structure and, most of all, support. Sober Living Environment is the place to systematically increase personal responsibility and life skills, allowing each resident the opportunity to choose his own destiny and flourish in a new way of life.
