The Senior Program for the North Slope Elders is a program for anyone 60 and older. The NSB Senior program has an application to fill out then a Senior card is issued. There are several benefits with the NSB Senior Card and these are 10% discounted off food items at Alaska Commercial (AC) and Stuaqpak (on Wednesdays only), and a 10% discount of purchase of gas any day of the week at the Eskimo Inc. Gas Station.
The Senior Lunch program provides a menu for lunches Monday-Friday 12:00-12:30 p.m. with the exception of Borough Holidays. Anyone may bring a guest and there is a fee for guest lunch who is not an elder. At the end of the month on the last Friday a Potluck is scheduled when people from the community may bring native food to share.
The Senior Program also provides van services in Utqiagvik and our outlined North Slope villages. The services run 7 days a week and limited services on specials events. The senior elders may call in and request to be transported to events, the airport, for meals, and other destinations. The van services are to drop off and not wait for any passengers with the exception of a quick stop at the Post Office to check mail.
The Senior Program schedules in Utqiagvik Elder activities every Friday coordinated by our Clients Service Assistant staff. Some of the activities are Snertz, Singing Contest, Cake Walk, and Bingo.
The Senior Center has 20 permanent apartments and 8 temporary apartments for any Senior to reserve when traveling to and through Utqiagvik (depends on space availability).
