The Land Management Regulation (LMR) Division reviews land-use plans and permits, and monitors compliance with the land management regulations, the North Slope Borough Coastal Management Program and permit conditions through field inspections. The division coordinates and maintains contacts with other Borough departments, industry representatives, state and federal agencies, the planning and zoning commission, and village and city governments.
The LMR Division also handles requests to rezone property and performs technical reviews and analyses of development projects and Section 404 Wetland Dredge and Fill Permits for compliance with the Federal Clean Water Act. This permitting function within the Department provides an important mechanism through which Borough residents can identify development needs requiring a Borough response. Moreover, this Division provides a vital coordination activity among groups proposing development and communicates with the relevant village organizations and also promotes village control over development issues and plans to the greatest extent possible.
