The SAR Coordinator (SC) manages SAR operations. The SC oversees the Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) program across the North Slope. The SC is the liaison between federal and state agencies and assists village search and rescue coordinators and volunteers in preparing for and conducting SAR missions.
Village search and rescue volunteers and Assistant SAR Coordinators are vital to our mission. Given the unique environment of the North Slope and the active subsistence lifestyle of our residents, knowledge of the land and subsistence lifestyle is essential.
